What is Authentic learning?

When learning in schools is authentic and real, students are better prepared for future success. Yet unfortunately, schools more commonly ask students to memorize prior knowledge, and activities have little meaning beyond showing teachers, parents, colleges, or employers that students have mastered the requirements of schooling.

Effective learning environments offer opportunities for students to, “Construct knowledge, through disciplined inquiry, and produce discourse, products and performances that have meaning beyond success in school.”

Design in opportunities and places for students to pursue their curiosities. Get students into the real world working on projects with caring adults. And incorporate places for students to work on projects and give performances that exhibit their knowledge and skills.
