Early years, built on play
Our preschool programme is inspired by the International Early Years Curriculum — an approach used in international schools worldwide, built on the idea that young children learn most deeply through play, enquiry and talk rather than worksheets.
We take that thinking and write our own units for it: the Bluemoon Wonder Curriculum. Each unit runs for several weeks around a single idea a child can hold onto — This Is Me!, loose parts, the world around us — and the same idea threads through storytime, counting, painting, outdoor play and conversation, so a child meets it from many directions.
- Learning through doing. Children investigate, build, sort, retell and test. Adults join the play to stretch the thinking and the language inside it.
- Language at the centre. Every activity is a chance to name, describe, ask and explain. This matters for every child, and matters most for those who arrive with less speech.
- Made here. Units use materials a Kampala family recognises — banana fibre, maize cobs, bottle tops, clay, seeds, jerry cans — so learning connects to the world outside the gate.
- One classroom. Children on the Early Intervention pathway learn in the same room as everyone else. Support is built into the activity, not delivered somewhere down the corridor.
